Mr. Le Truong Luu, Member of the Central Party Committee, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People’s Council; Mr. Nguyen Van Cao, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee (PPC); and Mr. Nguyen Dung, Member of the provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the PPC, had a meeting with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) of the US to discuss about Thua Thien Hue tourism development orientation at the PPC Office on March 31. Representatives of related offices also attended the meeting.

Mr. Douglas Jackson, Partner & Managing Director of BCG Vietnam and their consultants reported briefly on initial research results about Thua Thien Hue tourism development orientation. The report specify potentialities and advantages of Hue tourism such as heritage system, history, culture, and landscapes; weak points and challenges of Hue tourism such as its low development in comparison with its potentialities. Tourist arrival, expenses, and length of stay in Hue are lower than that in other tourist localities. Furthermore, shortcomings in terms of transport infrastructure, airport infrastructure, readiness for tourism industry, construction and promotion of Hue tourism brand name, etc. are also reasons to limit Hue tourism development.

Based on analysis and overall assessment of the situation, BCG pointed out issues to be improved and suggested 4 sectors of investment to increase visitors, their expenses and length of stay to Hue. Mr. Douglas Jackson hoped Thua Thien Hue province and BCG would officially cooperate to implement Thua Thien Hue tourism development project soon.

At the meeting

Secretary Luu and Chairman Cao highly appreciated  research results and suggestions of BCG for Hue tourism. Secretary Luu emphasized Thua Thien Hue province need help and consultancy from BCG to have solutions for the provincial tourism industry to develop in accordance with its available potentialities. Chairman Cao committed to ask related departments to pay attention to BCG suggestions for future cooperation.
